When you conference in Sydney, the highlights of the city will beckon. When you have arrived with time to spare or rise early to see the city through local eyes before conference sessions or business meetings begin, there’s an infinite choice of experiences to have.

We’ve narrowed down some options for you to consider from early morning swims or walks to twilight and after hours cultural experiences and places to enjoy networking drinks - so you can take in Sydney’s iconic experiences while in Sydney for business meetings or conferences.

Surf Lesson at Bondi

Individuals, small and large groups can take a surfing lesson with Let’s Go Surfing at Sydney’s expansive Bondi Beach. You can tailor the experience for one hour or more for beginners upwards. You’ll start on the sand before you try your new skills in the water and the northern end of the beach, where the waves are a little more gentle.

Everything you need is provided except your own swimmers and towel! Surfing at Bondi Beach is the way many Sydney locals start their day. Enjoy an authentic lifestyle experience at Australia’s most iconic beach before you join your first plenary at the conference.

Swim at Icebergs

If surfing is not your thing, take a dip at Bondi’s famous sea pool, Icebergs. This unique pool experience brings you up close and personal to the ocean while offering the thin black line of a lap lane.

For almost 100 years, Sydney locals have been starting their day here with a salty dip in the 50 metre pool. Open from 6:00am to 6.30pm daily with an on-site sauna to warm up during the winter months, swimmers can also enjoy breakfast in the Crabbe Hole cafe and sit in the morning sunshine on the deck. A small admission fee gives you a lifetime memory.

Depending on where you are staying, there are a number of iconic pools around the city perched on the edge of Sydney Harbour or alongside the Pacific Ocean. In the city the Andrew (Boy) Charlton pool next to the harbour, North Sydney Olympic pool overlooking the Sydney Harbour Bridge offer a unique city swim experience. On the coast there are ocean pools including the Bronte Baths and the Coogee Women’s Baths for a women’s only swim, while at Coogee take a dip at Wylie’s Baths.

Climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge

Take a dawn, twilight or night tour when you scale the Sydney Harbour Bridge to get a bird's eye view of the beautiful, natural harbour and the surrounding city as the sun rises, or sets. BridgeClimb offers a range of 2.5-3 hours fully guided tours for individuals that you can book to fit in with your conference schedule.

Walk the Harbour and Coastal Trails

Wake early or enjoy the sunsets, along the harbour and near the city centre where there are some spectacular walks - to take at your leisure or in your stride.

Wulugul Walk Barangaroo

Follow the 1.5 shared walking and cycling path between King Street Wharf in the city centre around the Barangaroo Reserve to Walsh Bay, from here you can continue your walk to the promenade at Circular Quay.

The Wulugul Walk (the indigenous name for Kingfisher opened in 2021, a scenic pathway that follows the reclaimed shoreline from 1836. Across the water you’ll see Harbour Islands while you walk alongside the water on one side and the magnificent Barangaroo Reserve with its sandstone features on the other. Take your swimmers for a dip in the newly opened Marrinawi Cove, a sheltered harbour at the northern end of Barangaroo Reserve.

Bondi to Bronte Coastal Walk

If you are heading to Bondi to visit Australia’s most iconic beach, consider taking the scenic Bondi to Bronte coastal path. A 45-minute walk, enjoy vistas of the Pacific Ocean, spectacular at dawn or as the sun sets.

Wind along the sealed pathways from Bondi Beach, past Bondi Icebergs to Mackenzie’s Point where you can spot Aboriginal rock carvings before you walk onward to the pretty Tamarama Beach (once home to a theme park) then further to Bronte Beach where there are cafes for a quick breakfast with the locals before you start the return walk or head to the city via bus or taxi. Enjoy picture postcard scenes along this 45 minute track, popular with locals, and offering sights of dolphins and whales along the way.

AT THE END OF THE DAY

Art Gallery Of New South Wales

Art Gallery of New South Wales - Art After Dark

On Wednesday evenings, the Art Gallery of New South Wales is open after dark until 10pm. Delegates at conferences can make the most of this opportunity to view Australian, Indigenous and international art and exhibitions at the gallery after the day’s sessions are complete.

Both the original gallery in the South Building and the contemporary new North Building are open to the public. When you plan to explore the galleries, book a table for dinner at the Art Gallery Restaurant, Crafted by Matt Moran in the South Building or at MOD Dining by Clayton Wells in the North Building. To make it easy for you, there is a free shuttle bus every 20 minutes during Art After Hours from 7pm to 10pm from the Art Gallery to public transport hubs at Town Hall, Wynyard and Martin Place.

Catch a performance at the Sydney Opera House

The bar offers three sections of indoor bar area with timber walls surrounding a classic zinc bar top and a baby grand piano. For the best spot in the house, head upstairs to the observation deck, with standing high tables and abundant views.
