Spectacular new destination The Cutaway to come to life tonight for first gala event
Business Events Sydney (BESydney) will bring the city’s breathtaking new venue, The Cutaway at Barangaroo, to life tonight, hosting the first gala dinner in a location that will take its place alongside the Opera House as an iconic cultural and event site.
Carved from the sandstone beneath Barangaroo Reserve, The Cutaway was reopened to the public on 30 May after undergoing a significant reimagining as a preeminent event destination, which strengthens Sydney’s ability to attract globally significant events and conferences.
BESydney, the not-for-profit organisation dedicated to helping Sydney secure major international business events, has the honour of hosting the first gala dinner at the site. The evening will celebrate the 84 BESydney Global Ambassadors who work in Australia and abroad to bring the most prestigious international conferences to Sydney.
BESydney Chief Executive Officer, Amanda Lampe, said it is a privilege to have the historic opportunity to host the first major event at this new destination.
“The Cutaway is a spectacular, unique and versatile venue that will undoubtedly enhance Sydney’s reputation as a world-class event and conference destination for decades to come.
“I am delighted BESydney, an organisation founded to create a thriving business events economy, is hosting the inaugural gala dinner and bringing this wonderful space to life as it was designed.
"During this financial year, BESydney has secured 102 events, projected to deliver more than $340 million in future direct expenditure for Sydney and New South Wales, and a venue like The Cutaway will help us build on that success over the coming years.”
ICC Sydney Chief Executive Officer, Adam Mather-Brown, said as operator of The Cutaway, tonight’s event marks a significant milestone for the venue.
“This is a special event that champions the impact of international events to our state’s visitor economy and reaffirms Sydney’s reputation as a preeminent event destination.
“ICC Sydney works closely with BESydney to attract the brightest minds from around the world to our beautiful city, and The Cutaway is now another unique venue to host our international delegates.”
Tonight’s event will be attended by leaders from Sydney’s business and academic communities, as well as senior members of the NSW Government, State Parliament and city councillors.
