BESydney hailed as innovation trailblazer in Australian Business Awards

In its 50th year, BESydney’s evidence-based and innovative business practices have been recognised with the global meetings bidding specialist announced as an ABA100 Winner for Business Innovation in The Australian Business Awards 2019.

Among the company’s achievements, its ground-breaking, decade-long research partnership with the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) was a highlight. Championing the long-tail economic and social legacies of global meetings for a host destination, BESydney challenged convention with the development of a methodology that has set the benchmark for reporting now being used by the meetings industry globally.

Congratulating BESydney on the Award, NSW Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney, The Hon. Stuart Ayres MP, said, “BESydney strategically targets conferences that are aligned with Sydney and Australia’s unique industry and academic strengths, so when those events come here the impacts of the conference are more far-reaching and longstanding – both for our local Australian communities as well as the international host organisation and their membership.”

BESydney Chair, The Hon. Bruce Baird AM, said, “BESydney is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and business innovation has been the cornerstone of the organisation’s success over the decades. It has enabled them to stay ahead of the curve, delivering for their clients and the Government and industry that sustain them.”

BESydney CEO, Lyn Lewis-Smith, said, “I am absolutely thrilled that we have been recognised for the innovative approach we take to meeting the needs of our international clients and stakeholders here in Sydney. The Beyond Tourism Benefits research has enjoyed a remarkable resonance amongst our international convention bureau peers and the new methodology underpinning its findings is now driving best practice across the industry.”

Ms Lewis-Smith added that the world of business events is highly competitive. “I believe our approach to partnering with government, industry and academia to articulate a business case for this sector has played a small part in that. As more governments and industries realise the breadth of the impact, they are throwing everything at winning that business.

“We couldn’t have done this without supportive partners, who have joined us in our journey to ensure we stay ahead of the game as market leaders and helped us to deliver a strong pipeline of global meetings for the State.”

Now in its 14th year, The Australian Business Awards recognises high-performing organisations which implement world-class business initiatives and develop innovative products and services. The national winners are benchmarked against the top performers globally in the international chapter of the program at The World Business Awards.

“Innovation is vital for every company, but it’s even more important for business growth and expansion,” The Australian Business Awards Program Director, Tara Johnston, said. “Innovation makes it easier to grow, regardless of the size of the business. You need new, unique ideas, and the ability to bring them to market before the competition.”

Sydney continues winning streak with US corporate win

Sydney is a firm favourite with global direct selling company Nu Skin Enterprises, who have for the first time chosen our harbour city to inspire and reward their America-based distributors.
