Environmental sustainability

We are a certified member of the Climate Active network. Certification recognises the organisation’s work to measure, reduce and offset emissions to achieve net zero, alongside its ongoing emissions reduction strategy and commitment to reduce emissions by 30% by 2030.

To support this commitment, BESydney purchased carbon credits across two projects with environmental and community co-benefits:

• 86% ACCUs: Olkola Ajin - Olkola Fire Project: The Olkola Ajin Savanna Burning Project uses the knowledge and techniques of Traditional Owners to manage late dry season wildfires. Managed by the Olkola Aboriginal Corporation, an Indigenous-led organisation, the project supports future generations’ connection to land and culture. By reducing destructive late-season wildfires, the project lowers emissions and generates revenue for the community through the sale of Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs). It also creates local employment in strategic fire management, a practice undertaken by Indigenous communities on the Cape York Peninsula for thousands of years.

• 14% VCUs: Ghani Solar Renewable Power Project: The Ghani Solar Renewable Power Project generates clean electricity through a 500 MW solar project in Andhra Pradesh, India. The project displaces greenhouse gas emissions estimated at approximately 887,000 t CO2e per year.

We are a founding Associate Member of the Sustainable Destination Partnership, developed by the City of Sydney. The Partnership includes leading hotels, event centres, cultural institutions and tourism bodies that work together to build Sydney's reputation as a leading sustainable destination and improve environmental performance, by minimising single-use items and food waste, adopting renewable energy sources, improving water efficiency and increasing sustainability across the supply chain.
