Why bid?

Global meetings create global outcomes
This is where your legacy begins. The true value of global meetings is in the opportunity to collaborate, exchange genius and experience a challenging meeting of minds.
Platforms to build long-lasting local and global relationships, conferences, congresses and meetings are critical agents of change. They leave an indelible mark not only on the future of your sector, but also the trajectory of your career. In real-world terms, these meetings boost your sector’s profile, engage valuable government support, attract vital investments and welcome new research partners.
But this journey to success has to start somewhere.
Building a roadmap for the future
That journey starts by leading a bid. We know the word ‘bid’ might seem uncomfortable, or even unusual, but let’s break it down – it’s really the presentation of a comprehensive business case to the people who you already know – your international colleagues and the ones you’ve likely been connecting with for years.
What it all boils down to: Sydney and Australia are at the epicentre of change for your sector and have the tools in our arsenal to drive that forward. Connectivity, industry leadership and influence, government support, and a strong capacity to deliver – in one of the world’s truly modern cities.
Reward and achievement
Leading a bid as a BESydney bid champion, and then subsequently hosting your international colleagues in your home country, offers many professional and personal rewards. We know that winning and hosting conferences, congresses and meetings have helped previous clients boost the profile of their industry.
Success by numbers
105th Rotary Convention 2014
Delegates at the Sydney Rotary International Convention helped raise A$120,000 for the global eradication of polio. With generous support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and BridgeClimb Sydney, which donated 50 per cent of the cost of BridgeClimb tickets to Rotary, were used by Rotary in the fight against Polio. The money raised is enough to buy Polio immunisation vaccine for 240,000 children. At the official opening of the convention, the then Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott pledged $100 million over the next five years to assist Rotary in its 'End Polio Now' campaign.
World AIDS Conference 2007
UNSW Sydney was awarded a $17.7 million grant from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) to support research into HIV AIDS as a direct result of hosting conference. The conference also led to the UNSW Sydney being recognised as an international leader in HIV AIDS research. They also received a $18 million grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to support a research study into HIV drug therapy.
International Congress on Obesity (ICO) 2006
The 2006 International Congress on Obesity in Sydney led directly to the development of the $385 million Charles Perkins Centre, which opened in 2012. The Centre is dedicated to easing the burden of obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease and their related conditions – the leading causes of death, disability and reduced quality of life in Australia.
